About a year ago, together with Dimitris Bakas, one of the outstanding Greek composers / sound artists of contemporary music, we began a peculiar, highly interesting collaboration for both of us. The cycle of improvisatory-form recordings constitutes the harvest of a magical series of research dialogues and sonic encounters.
Today, we are delighted that it is officially released with the support of EMΗ!
At the link below you can freely listen to and download the album.
We wholeheartedly thank web developer Christodoulos Kalogiannis for creating the page and for our excellent collaboration.
Special thanks to Panayiotis Kokoras – Regent Professor of Music Composition, University of North Texas, College of Music, for this first review of our work:
The human voice – a primordial yet infinitely expressive instrument – has stood at the core of music and artistic exploration since ancient times. In the realm of contemporary music, it is one of the greatest challenges, demanding both technical virtuosity and deep artistic intuition, from both composer and performer. Like Orpheus, whose voice is said to have enchanted the gods and tamed the Underworld, so too here the two works create a bridge where musical material, form, and voice produce a metaphysical symphony.
In Action Reaction parts A–B–C, Natassa Mare and Dimitris Bakas achieve a rare balance, placing the human voice within a contemporary sonic environment without succumbing to the dead-ends of empty experimentalism or predictable traditional style. Their approach resonates with the Byzantine aesthetic of the ison, where voices interweave in fluid motion, generating a sonic experience that transcends mere technique.
These works intertwine field recordings, electronic textures, and vocal explorations ranging from melodic singing and recitation to fragile vocal nuances and ethereal expressions. The result is a finely crafted alchemy of sound—an acoustic journey that recalls ancient rituals while embracing the boundless possibilities of the digital age.
